NLP Coaching
Let's start this off by saying I don't like to go by the title 'Life Coach', or any type of 'Coach', I'm more a psychotherapist with training in coaching to help you achieve what it is you want. I'm not keen on coaching for all of life's challenges, because it is often avoidant of where people need to go to heal, and not necessarily helpful to all things. This is why I take more of an integrative approach to therapy.
What is Coaching?
Coaching is typically future orientated and doesn't look too much into the past. The problem is that it is sometimes the past that is holding us back from going forwards - this is the sticking point for some coaches and the point at which they refer on. As a psychotherapist, I'm able to help people deal with the past experiences that can be attributing to the blocks in the way, as well as using NLP
Coaching skills.
If you're stuck in the mud, sometimes you have to go back to go forwards...
Coaching helps you to identify goals, blocks, and what steps you need to make you achieve. It is usually quite focused work, and shorter-term than psychotherapy, but not necessarily.
It is a way of finding solutions in a collaborative, non-judgemental relationship, its' function is to help you find your own answers, without necessarily being given solutions, or being told what to do. It helps you identify goals, and the motivation to achieve those goals.
NLP coaching integrates the use of language skills to enhance the coaching experience. NLP techniques can help you move through your blocks quickly.
What might you benefit from coaching?
Achieve the things you want, e.g. Starting a business
Improving your situation
Motivation
Staying focused
Strengthening skills
Working beyond blocks
Coaching sessions can stop things from falling by the wayside, keeping you on track, and motivated towards bettering yourself.
Coaching is often used life problems when there is no mental health concerns. It is about empowerment and change. It is also a great learning tool for those in any kind of business.
Coaching will not focus on too much on the past or emotional concerns, rather it is about action, motivation, and achieving - unless these are blocks from the past which are impacting on achieving.
Just like a sports coach or personal trainer, I will challenge you to help you set, and achieve your goals. All this is done in the safety of a confidential, respectful yet challenging relationship, where you and your ambitions are the most important focus.
What kind of issues do people work on in coaching?
I work with many kinds of situations. I find a lot of people come to see me to help manage a difficult relationship, or cope and deal with a narcissistic partner, partner or colleague (usually a manager who is bullying or controlling). If you are out of the situation, then psychotherapy is usually more appropriate to recover.

How do I work?
Strictly speaking, I am not a 'qualified' coach, and as stated earlier I don't like to call myself a 'coach'.
I'm more a psychotherapist with skills and training in coaching.
Unlike many 'coaches', I do not just look forwards, I also help you to work with the underlying causes of what might be holding you back, even if this goes right back to childhood, which it can do.
I am trained in, and use a combination of Solution-Focused, Parts Therapy and NLP techniques to help my clients whether it is a personal or professional matter. These techniques are designed to help you think creatively and get past the blocks that are keeping you where you are.
Solution Focussed technique is a way of eliciting creativity, and solutions from the person rather than being told what to do. It is an empowering model of therapy.
NLP means Neurolinguistic Programming, it helps with how we think about things. How we think about others, ourselves and situations impacts on outcome.
Sessions can be face to face in person. If you are further afield, then sessions can be arranged to take place via Zoom. I am based in the UK, so please be aware of any time differences.
Why see me?
You will find that many people that call themselves 'coaches' and 'life coaches' are not actually trained or qualified in any form of coaching at all, and may just use this label. Coaching is an unregulated business, and you may have noticed the rise of the Instagram Coach if you use Instagram.
I have used coaching myself to better myself, and grow. I have worked very closely with managers and CEOs in my employed career who were extremely narcissistic and survived, yes they can be that bad to work for! If you know, you know...
I have got to know organisations from working on the inside, coming in from the outside, and as a therapist supporting people to survive and navigate the difficulties and politics.
Often things come up in coaching that coaching alone may not be appropriate for, or people are seeking coaching for something that is a more mental health/psychological issue that requires counselling or psychotherapy. So some coaches are unequipped to deal with these difficulties appropriately. So, when you see me, I can help you deal with whatever comes up.
Coaching is very different from counselling and psychotherapy. I have completed training in NLP Coaching at Central College, England - Birmingham. NLP Coaching is a certain type of coaching that can be very powerful.
As well to NLP training, I have also completed specific certified training in Supervision (endorsed by The British Psychological Society) which gives me another set of coaching type skills, as well as many other psychological therapies which can be integrated into coaching; such as IFS Therapy, Brainspotting and EMDR.
This blended approach is what will help - my aim is to give you the power back and get you through, and achieve what it is you really want, and possibly more...
