MINDFULNESS
Mindfulness - I prefer the term 'awareness' as I think it's easier to get a handle on for those who use the English language, and mindfulness is simply about being aware of self and surroundings from moment to moment.
Consciousness is about being conscious of ourselves and surroundings in the moment, not thinking ahead or thinking about the past.
Mindfulness has its roots in meditation and Buddhism, but I believe it is much more versatile than meditation per se.
For me it's all about slowing things down and being aware..

To be mindful there are steps:
- Take a step back for a moment
- Be a scientist or observer of yourself - like a fly on the wall - or to 'be aware & curious'
- Take a genuine interest in your surroundings, look at things in detail, like you are seeing the world for the first time.
- Focus on the physical, what does it feel like in your body right now.
- Listen to the sounds around you
- Watch yourself in whatever it is you are doing
- Accept your thoughts as thoughts, nothing more, don't let them define you, just notice them, don't engage with them
- Chew your food carefully, really try to taste it and feel the texture.
